By Rachel V Barnes

You don't have to look far to see the most lucrative English language big screen franchise in the past. It is the James Bond 007 movies. James Bond is a fictional character brought to life by the English author Ian Fleming back in 1953. James Bond was the key character in twelve novels and two short story collections. There have also been 22 movies to date starting with "Dr. No" back in 1962.

Ian Fleming, the originator of James Bond, died back in 1964 but the heroic person of James Bond lives on in novels by up to five other authors, such as Robert Markham, the pen name for Kingsley Amis, John Pearson, Raymond Benson, John Gardner and Sebastian Faulks. Christopher Woods novelized two screenplays and various other authors' wrote unofficial versions of James Bond.

There have been 22 films to date and a 23rd is promised straight away in the James Bond franchise. The initial movie was from the time 1962, "Dr. No" and on October 31, 2008 the latest came out, which was "Quantum of Solace".

Sean Connery is contemplated to be the initial James Bond. He played the character in 6 movies starting with "Dr. No" in 1962, followed by "From Russia with Love" in 1963, "Goldfinger:" in 1964, "Thunderball" in 1965, "You Only Live Twice" from 1967 and "Diamonds Are Forever" from 1971.

In 1969, Sean Connery took a interruption from being James Bond for the movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". George Lazenby played James Bond in that movie. He was the only performer of all of the James Bond stars to simply act in one film.

Roger Moore then took over the starring part. He played Bond in 7 films from the 1973's "Live and Let Die", "The Man with the Golden Gun" in 1974", "The Spy who Loved Me" in 1977, "Moonraker" from 1979, "For Your Eyes Only" in 1981, "Octopussy" in 1983, and " A View to a Kill" in1985.

Timothy Dalton followed for only the next two films "The Living Daylights" from 1987 and "License to Kill" in 1989. "Goldeneye" came out in 1995 with Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. He continued for 3 added movies, in 1997 "Tomorrow Never Dies" and 1999, "The World Is Not Enough" and 2002 "Die Another Day".

The only fair-haired player to ever depict Bond is the present star of the franchise. Daniel Craig was Bond in 2006 for "Casino Royale" and 2008 for "Quantum of Solace". Another Bond movie is now going on, set for an indeterminate occasion and only referred to now as "James Bond 23". Daniel Craig is set to star in the lead role.
