Dementia Managing

By Robert Sanders

Part of the problem in finding drugs which may be effective for dementia is that our ideas about what constitutes dementia have been undergoing radical change in recent years. It had been traditional to distinguish between Alzheimer's dementia, or senile dementia of the Alzheimer's type (SDAT) and multi-infarct dementia (MID), which is theoretically caused by small strokes which insidiously pick off brain tissue to the point where an individual's cognitive function is compromised.

It was originally thought that MID accounted for 60%+ of the dementias. Accordingly, early attempts to treat the dementias concentrated on the multi-infarct dementias. The initial hypothesis was that these multiple small strokes were being caused by a process of hardening of the arteries, sometimes called arteriosclerosis and sometimes atherosclerosis (although these terms refer to two quite different disorders) which impaired blood supply to the brain. The logical treatment, therefore, for this condition was to attempt to dilate blood vessels. This led to the use of a wide number of vasodilating drugs such as hydralazine.

It is quite rare now for such drugs to be used for this purpose. Arguably, if anything, such treatment may have made the condition somewhat worse in that a potential effect of vasodilators is the reduction of blood pressure and reducing blood pressure would mean that the brain would be less perfused with blood, as one of the functions of blood pressure in the first instance is to provide the propulsive force to send blood up against the force of gravity to perfuse the brain.

Stage 2

More recent attempts to treat the dementias have proceeded on the basis that Alzheimer's dementia is the commonest form of dementia. For many years, the term Alzheimer's dementia was reserved for dementias that came on before the age of 65 (for this reason it was also called persenile dementia), which were not obviously caused by strokes. It was conceded that there was another dementia that was like Alzheimer's dementia, which appeared to come on after the age of 65 but this was thought to be less common. Distinctions on the basis of age have now collapsed and both dementias of the Alzheimer type are now called senile dementia of the Alzheimer type. The amalgamation of these two groups led to an awareness that Alzheimer's-type dementia is the commonest form. The primary therapeutic focus in the field, therefore, has been on an attempt to reverse the deficits which are supposed to be present in SDAT.

In particular, it has been held that in Alzheimer's, there is a dysfunction of cholinergic pathways in the brain, for which there are both historical and clinical reason. Historically, when early work in psychopharmacology began, there were only four known neurotransmitters - noradrenaline, 5-HT, dopamine and acetylcholine (ACh). Noradrenaline quickly became the neurotransmitter involved in depression and mood disorders. Dopamine was known to be involved in Parkinson's disease, and, when it became clear that neuroleptics acted on it, schizophrenia, after which the psychoses in general came to be seen as disorders of dopamine neurotransmission. For the most part, 5-HT was associated with either depression or anxiety. This left ACh without a function. It seemed convenient to parcel it out to the dementias.

There was, in addition, some clinical evidence in favour of an association between the cholinergic system and dementia. Part of the reason for this claim can be seen in a number of the chapters of this blog, in which drugs with anticholinergic effects have been noted as potentially causing amnesia or confusion (see The Management of Side Effects & Side Effects of Antidepressants articles).

Stage 3

In the last 5 years, a number of other dementias have been described. A distinction has been drawn between cortical and subcortical dementias. The cortex of the brain is the area responsible for higher cognitive functions, such as speaking, reading, planning and executing actions, etc In the cortical dementias, memory is usually the function most noticeably affected but those who are affected also have problems with planning even simple functions such as dressing and they typically cannot read, draw or execute any complex tasks. Alzheimer's and MID are cortical dementias. There are also subcortical parts to the brain which are common to humans and other mammals. They involve a number of what are termed midbrain and brainstem structures.

The Recordable Cable Box and its Impact on Life

By Maria Birch

It's been about a decade since the first DVR units came out. I can remember when Panasonic released its first product, which was known as Replay TV at the time. I was thrilled by the concept of digitally recording any TV show, even if I wasn't there.

I loved the idea of something like this. I always found myself short on tapes, and hated to erase things I'd previously recorded. I would also have a hard time finding certain shows within the tapes, as fast forwarding and rewinding was always a hassle. The advent of the DVR would solve both of these problems.

If I was out at night for dinner, I could come home and watch my favorite shows a few hours after they were originally broadcast. I wouldn't need to worry about a tape running out of room, or having to buy new ones.

Everything sounded great to me and I ended up buying the Replay TV. The only drawback about it was that you'd have to download the TV guide via dial-up Internet to keep up with the listings.

This was really my only gripe since the rest of it was just as advertised. I was in love with my recorder and it made life so much easier.

It seems like just about everyone has a DVR these days. Many cable companies offer them directly as part of the package. Others have standalone Tivo units. They're stronger, faster, and of better quality than ever before.

I can't believe it's been almost ten years since I first read about this device. At the time, it seemed like one of the most futuristic pieces of technology I'd ever encountered. Today, it's common in most households.

I fully appreciate the fact that I have one in my house. My cable box broke a few months ago, and living without one made me realize just how useful they are.

Gamer Testing Ground - Get Paid To Play Video Games From Home

By Neil Holloway

I was skeptical if I could really make $120/hour working with Gamer Testing Ground testing the latest video games. A lot of my friends were doubting as I shared with them I was a professional video game tester and so did I until I finally decided for myself I might as well make money testing video games and decided to go for it.

But after having tried it myself and been at it for six months now I can tell you that I have a great job! The truth is because so many are skeptical there are not as many game testers right now than there is demand. Let me share with you a bit about Gamer Testing Ground.

Why Do Video Companies Need Game Testers?

Gamer Testing Grounds will connect you with the top 50 gaming companies in the world who are looking for video gamers to test out the newest games before they are released. Over the past few months and I have been introduced to some of the programmers, they have come to trust and like my gaming ability, and need more testers right now. The simple reason is because programmers spend all their time making updates and improvements and do not have the time to play their games all day. Because of this fact they are willing to pay good money for individuals to play their games.

How Much Money Will I Make Testing Video Games For Gamer Testing Ground?

I want to say this upfront, You need to love playing video games before you check out Gamer Testing Ground, otherwise it will seem more like a boring chore. The truth is it does pay well (I make around $150 per day and the top gamers are making $120 per hour) because the more I test the more I find what they are looking for in a tester. Not everyone is willing to play video games, the sad truth is even if you paid them for it.

Make Sure To Visit Gamer Testing Ground

The greatest reason i can share why I have to decided to be a video game tester full time is because the pay is great and I am able to play the newest video games before anyone else. It is a great stream of income and I no longer am looking for any part time jobs. Another great advantage that I enjoy is working from my home while making money. Countless games are released every year into an exploding $50 billion industry so the job opportunities are plentiful and my work will always be needed.

Some Saddle Parts Need More Maintenance Than Others

By Andre Hansen

When you employ a saddle, there are some bits of a western saddle that should get extra care and upkeep. These parts need to be observed for symptoms of damage because if you don't keep an eye fixed on them, then you can have a bad accident. This includes cleaning and maintaining these parts. You should take care to make certain you have given each part a comprehensive inspection. Some parts, however, can cause you to be injured or killed if you do not do what you want to do.

This includes cleaning and maintaining these parts. You should take care to make certain you have given each part a comprehensive inspection. Some bits can cause you to be hurt or killed if you do not do what you need to do.

The cinch is the wide strap that goes under the pony. It is important the cinch is in good working order. If it isn't, then the saddle can come loose. The rider can fall from the horse and be hurt badly. You also need to be certain that this part fits the horse properly or the horse can be wounded.

It secures the saddle by being attached to the rigging. It's vital the cinch is in good working order. The rider can fall from the horse and be hurt badly. The off billet and the latigos connect the rigging to the cinch strap. Failure in these parts can suggest the loss of the rider.

Stirrup leathers can wear out where the hardware rubs it. The stirrup hobbles will potentially be lost more often than worn out, so having extras is often a good idea. Wear and tear on the horn wrap and rope strap depends on how you are using the saddle. Regular use will often not wear it out. However if you are a roper, you might need to replace these parts a couple of times as you are using them more. Stirrups are way more of a preference replacement than a worn replacement. You will probably replace these when they no longer feel good for you. There are different things that will influence this change. It can be a change in the way the saddle is being used or for some reason there is a change in your seat in the saddle.

How often you will have to modify the parts of a western saddle will be dependent on how rough you are on the saddle. Keeping your saddle well maintained will insure that you and your pony are safe.

A Small Collection Of Short Film Summaries To See

By Margery Duffy

With a shop near every neighborhood, video stores have been the most convenient way to get movies for years. Now, with internet usage exploding, movie downloads are becoming very popular. You can get virtually any movie you want with a good movie download site. Here are some examples.

The Priests Wife: Hardly amusing blend of drama and humor with Loren as a disenchanted singer who imagines she could persuade pastor Mastroianni to acquire discharge from his promise of celibacy and wed her. Weightier addressing of this topic might be heard on talk shows. Cast includes Sophia Loren, Marcello Mastroianni, Venantino Venantini, Jacques Stany, Pippo Starnazza, and Augusto Mastrantoni. (106 minutes, 1971)

Doug's First Movie: The megastar of Television's Doug is characterized in this bland, formulaic tale, made exclusively for kids. Easy going preteen Doug attempts to spare an animal in need clash with his wish to take his lady friend to the school dance. This movie was built as a direct-to-video production. Voices of Thomas McHugh, Fred Newman, Chris Phillips, Constance Shulman, Doug Preis, and Alice Playten. (97 minutes, 1999)

Prom Night: This is about exacting revenge on the boys who were accountable for the mortality of a little girl 6 years before. Not the poorest of its type, although that's nothing to boast about. Cast includes Leslie Nielsen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Casey Stevens, Antoinette Bower, and Robert Silverman. (91 minutes, 1980)

The All-American Boy: Jumbled drama in reference to Olympic optimistic Voight's effort to be a successful boxer; striking locations of northern California, but that's all. Cast includes Jon Voight, Ned Glass, Anne Archer, and Carol Androsky. (104 minutes, 1989)

The Muse: Brooks plays a Hollywood screenwriter who's informed that he's out of touch until he hooks up with a genuine muse Rock, a capricious lady whose performing methods are unorthodox at best. As with tons of Brooks' films, the parts are better than the entire thing, although his gibes at Hollywood are valuable, and some of the cameo appearances which we come observe are extremely funny. Cast includes Albert Brooks, Sharon Rock, Andie MacDowell, Jeff Bridges, Mark Feuerstein, Steven Wright, and Bradley Whitford. (96 minutes, 1999)

The Ploughman's Lunch: Difficult, skeptical condemnation of British behaviors, ethics and affairs of state, focusing on the exercises of completely selfish journalist (Pryce) and others throughout the Falklands battle. The film is relatively perceptive, within the restraints of its outlook. Cast includes Jonathan Pryce, Tim Curry, Rosemary Harris, Blunt Finlay, and Charlie Dore. (100 minutes, 1983)

The Truman Show: Truman Burbank starts to get a strange feeling. He can't quite explain it, but something just isn't right. It turns out that Truman is right. In fact everyone else in town is an actor, and every day is The Truman Show.

Metropolis: A private investigator and his nephew track a suspect to the futuristic Metropolis, meet a bizarre gal who is really an extremely commanding android, and decipher a message sent by a rebel forces leader who plans to take over the city. This is an amazing Japanese animated movie. It is written by Katsuhiro Otomo Akira, based on a visual novel by Osamu Tezuka called Astro Boy. Rich backdrops balance with cartoon looking lead characters, although dramatic storytelling and commanding visuals defeat film's shortcomings. Cast includes Kei Kobayashi, Kohki Okada, Taro Ishida, and Kousei Tomita. (106 minutes, 2001)

Thunderheart: There have been a number of killings on the Sioux Indian Reservation. The FBI goes in to deal with the situation. One agent, Ray Levoi, has Sioux blood. As he investigates the case he soon realizes there is much more going on than some random killings.

Try "Free Downloads Movies" if you want to find some downloads. A change in the phrase will sometimes get a better result. Switch to "Rent DVD Movies Online" and see if you find what you are looking for.

How Golf Cart Covers Protect Your Prized Equipment

By Frank Smotten

One of the major things that a golfer invests in aside from his golf clubs is a golf cart. Since it is a major investment, it is important for the golfer to keep it clean so it remains looking brand new and presentable, once you use it during a round of golf. Because of this, they are using golf cart covers to protect it from all possible causes of dirt. The following are the ways a cover protects your golf equipment.

If you expose your golf cart to the rain, you will also give hard water, as well as grime the chance of setting in on its surface. Once these have settled, you will encounter many problems in cleaning them. Most of the time, no matter how many times you scrub and wipe it with the strongest cleaning materials, you may still find them on your golf cart.

Aside from rain, it will also protect your golf cart from acquiring too much dirt. Since the golf cart is always on the field with sand and grass, your cart is very much prone to getting or accumulating too much dirt. These dirt accumulations will make your golf cart look older than it is, even if you have only bought it several months ago.

When it comes to aesthetics, golf cart covers will definitely help you maintain the color of your cart. If you let it be exposed under the heat of the sun unprotected, you will notice that the colors will be faded. So what if you have a different colored cart? Would you just let it fade and lose its bright color?

Cracks due to golf balls - since a golf course is a place to play, it is inevitable that accidents may happen like your cart being hit by golf balls. The thing about a golf cart cover's material is that it will absorb the shock that a speeding golf ball would cause. With this, you will have shallower, or possible no, cracks to any of your golf carts.

If you will be getting a golf cart cover, you will still find that you are able to drive your cart. The reason for this is that there are several types of golf cart covers available that will allow you to drive the cart even when it's covered.

You still have many options in buying the cart covers. You can chose from a wide variety of colors plus the functionality that you need. They also come in easy storage bags so you can just pack them up at a whim. If you search online, you will see that there are companies that offer warranty on their golf cart covers so you need not worry about replacements or problems.

When it comes to protecting your sports gear, it is important for you to choose only the best, but at the same time, stay within your budget. By searching online, you will be able to compare the prices of golf cart covers, so you will find the best valued that is friendly to everybody's pocket. Now, keeping your cart clean will be very easy; all you have to do is cover them.

What Year Did the Amusement Parks Boom?

By Andrea Smith

It is safe to say that 1950 ushered in the new era of theme park attendance.Although it is hard to pinpoint one specific year in which amusement parks all experienced a surge of growth.

AlThough they were popular in the mid 1920s, theme parks attendance were damaged during the Great Depression as were other businesses, however big resorts like Blackpool were open during World War II and provided a much needed break for soldiers on leave and their families, theme park attendance was lower than usual during the 1940s.

In 1950, people were trying to move on from the horror and hardship of the Second World War. Within a few years after the war was over, things began to change, and change in a big way. In addition, soldiers home from the war were marrying if they had been single, and were producing children if they were married. These were the early years of the baby boom, and it was a good time to operate a theme park

In the early 1950s, there wasn't the huge demand for the kind of thrill rides that came along later in the 20th century. Theme parks then meant a picnic area, a playground for young children, and perhaps a few rides built for small tots that were paid for on a "per-ride" basis rather than the all-in-one admissions that came along later.

As the children of the baby boom grew up, theme parks grew up alongside them. The baby boomers were growing up and wanting more excitement, and soon they would have the disposable income to buy it. As those children hit their teens, they wanted more than just a carousel or dodgem cars. And park developers took note. During the 1970s, roller coasters experienced a surge of popularity the likes of which hadn't been seen since before the war. It hadn't turned into an all-out contest for who had the biggest and fastest coaster yet, but parks knew that if they were to prosper they would have to keep up in terms of thrill rides.

It wasn't until the late 1990s that the current "arms race" in thrill rides began. However the whole concept of just how big amusement parks could be in family life dates back to 1950 and the first wave of baby boomers riding their first amusement rides.

Spotting a poker bluff online is tricky. In offline play, you can watch body language and get physical cues as to when someone is bluffing. Usually unless they are a professional, all poker players give off signs they are bluffing through body language. Online, though, you don't have the ability to read body language, so how can you tell if someone is bluffing?

People still give off signals, even online, that they are bluffing. Some are better at covering, but others are a little loose and easy to catch. Either way, the following are 8 ways that you can spot a poker bluff online.

1. Pay attention to chatter. Some people cannot seem to hold their tongue. Some people who bluff will be chatting away. What they say may not match up to how they play and that is what you are watching for. Players may just reveal their bluff in what they say without ever realizing it.

2. A person bluffing may raise before the flop and quickly raise again. They are driving up the pot and hoping you don't have a hand you feel confident about.

3. If someone jumps into the game quickly or chooses to sits out and then changes their mind right as the cards are being dealt then they are someone to watch. They probably won't have a good hand, but are simply impatient. If they keep raising or they call quickly then chances are they are bluffing.

4. It is always smart to watch someone who goes all in with a low show on the table. This person may just be ready to call it a day and figures why not go out on a high note.

5. Get to know playing styles. The best players mix up their style, but your average player will usually follow the same general patterns. If someone starts playing odd then they should be watched. They may have a good hand, but chances are they are trying to bluff. Get to know the other players styles so you can spot when things are not quite right.

6. Watch aggressive or loose players. If you notice someone who is always playing aggressively then you never really know when to trust them because they cannot possible have an amazing hand every time.

7. Another thing about watching players - watch what is shown at the end. If someone keeps falling short then you know they like to bluff and you will keep an eye on them in the future.

8. People who play fast are a danger. Someone who is just playing fast and not putting thought into what they are doing is a loose cannon. They may not even have a clue how to play. Don't let them get you. Watch what they play and don't buy into their bluff.

These 8 ways to spot a poker bluff should help you to start being able to cut through the bluffs that are thrown your way online. After some practice and some time you should start to be able to spot online bluffs just as easily as you do during an offline game.

Winning On Online Video Slots Machines

By Simon M Skinner

There are a lot of people out there looking for the answer to how to win on a casino slot machine. These people believe that there must be some sort of winning strategy to consistently winning at this casino game; they think that there's a secret and they're determined to ferret it out. However, there is no secret formula to winning at slots, though there are some things you can do which can level the odds. Keep reading for some ideas on improving your chances of winning when playing slot machines.

Before you get started, you should find out the odds of winning on a given slot machine and read the rules of the casino carefully. The better you know your odds and the house rules which may apply to this particular game, the better you'll be able to make good choices about where to play slots.

If you are confused on a game or how the odds are calculated with it, take a little time to research it all. It should not take you more than a few moments to find the information that you are looking for but it is certainly worth it in the end.

If you are new to a particular casino slot machine or new to the gaming world all together, you will want to take it a little slow. Do not drop a few hundred down for one turn on a slot machine if this is your first time playing. Odds are, you are going to walk away from that game a hundred dollars poorer.

There are of course the incredibly lucky few out there who really have made a fortune their very first time at the slot machine. While this is a possibility, remember that the odds of this being the case for you are so low that you probably shouldn't count on this happening.

If you have the opportunity to speak with other players who have had a record of winning consistently, then you should ask them if they have any advice to offer. They may have some tips for you - but remember that these are only tips, not guarantees and there is no way to assure winning at slots or any other game each and every time you play.

Family members and friends who have experience with online casino games may also be able to offer some help. If anyone has any sort of advice to you, make a point of listening to them; there may come a time when this information will be useful to you.

When it comes to finding a sure fire way to win every time, you might find that you have to create your own methods. This of course is going to take a little trial and error on your part and it may very well cost you a little bit of money. If you are willing to put the time, energy, focus and money into it, you might be the first to finally come up with a proven system for winning at casino slot machine games.

Reign in the mystery on ABC Lost

By JD Theis

The amount of mystery that abounds in the plot of the ABC lost, more than that surrounds the latest scoops from the ABC studios and production sites where the filming of the next and the ultimate season of the lost is in full swing.

A source close to a major entertainment site said that the creators have revealed so much in the opening episodes itself of the season six that the ABC executives have given the productions team strict instructions to not release any clips from the opening scenes, even for the purpose advertising and publicity campaign.

So we will all be kept in obscurity while the mystery will continue to reign. One can just hope that the ABC lost airs at the time when the anxieties of the fans regarding the plight and the fate of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 reaches its zenith. What will happen?? Nobody knows.

The season six is scheduled to be aired in 2010, but when nobody knows. But one thing is for sure. Lost on ABC will be missed big time by the fans all over the world. It unleashed a revolution of sorts in the entertainment industry.

Till the telecast of its first episode in 2004, no one had witnessed a TV show of such size and scale as the ABC Lost. Nor one had imagined that it would be possible to play with the abstract entities like the supernatural elements, the fourth dimension time and the fate, whose existence still hangs in mid-air but as the show has it, plays a very important role in the lives of the people.

The show has provided seasonal dose of drama and entertainment and also some insight into the life's tragedies and realities and a belief that in the end, all is well that ends well and also that whatever happens, happens for the good. Needless to say, the ABC lost did a lot of good for people associated with it in some or the other form. The actors, creators and the producers to whom it bought instant fame and glory, the fans to whom it provided redemption from the stereotypical plots aired on the entertainment networks.

Positive vs Negative Focus

By Jason Kendall

Look in any bookshop at their Best Seller list today, and you'll see a mass of autobiographies of the rich and famous. From empire builders to glamour models to footballers, they all tell a different story, but each has a thread in common - they focused on the positives and overcame adversity.

This is the way the world works; to be achievers in life we must encourage positive reasons why 'we can' to flood our consciousness, and drown out negative excuses why we can't.

For the student, this attitude to studying is paramount. To successfully complete a training program, the biggest tool in a trainee's workbox is a positive mindset. An optimistic approach brings about all sorts of possibilities, circumstances, answers and opportunities to achieve. By contrast, a negative outlook thwarts creativity and blocks our learning receptors.

This is down to our Reticular Activation System - an automatic mechanism in our brain that tells us what to focus on. Throughout our lives, we've experienced many things that no longer stay in the forefront of our minds - the bulk of what we've learned moves from our conscious mind to our sub-conscious mind, a kind of store cupboard stocked up with all our past knowledge and beliefs.

When we consciously attempt to do something, our Reticular Activation System (RAS) will search the sub-conscious mind for any relevant information it holds, and bring it to our attention. If we're walking down a street, we're only made aware of things that have meaning to us - the rest is just background noise.

So if our conscious mind has regularly been transferring upbeat, positive messages to our sub-conscious mind, then that's what will come back. But if our sub-conscious has been fed a bunch of downbeat, defeatist messages, then that's equally what will come back.

It seems that achievers are able to manipulate the messages filtered through to their sub-conscious minds by deliberately programming their RAS and choosing the exact messages the conscious mind sends. This makes it an essential tool for achieving goals, as the sub-conscious mind can't distinguish between real or imaginary events.

In other words, we need to create a very specific picture of our goal in our conscious mind. The RAS will then pass this on to our subconscious - which, as it believes everything it's told, will then help us achieve the goal. It does this by making us aware of all the relevant information which otherwise might have stayed as 'background noise'.

Napoleon Hill said that we can achieve any realistic goal if we keep on thinking of that goal, and stop thinking any negative thoughts about it. Of course, if we keep thinking that we can't achieve a goal, our subconscious will help us not to achieve it.

Be Healthy and Happy with Outdoor Family Games

By Craig Mecham

According to the experts there are two things which are a problem in our society. First is that we're not getting enough exercise. We spend too much time sitting around. We sit on the couch, we sit in front of the TV, we sit in the car, we sit behind our desks. We just do too much sitting. Of course sometimes we just have to sit, but we need to do less of it. Maybe we wouldn't all be so fat if we moved around a little more.

We're not exercising like Americans did back in the good old days. We need to walk, run, jog, or even just plain move around more. In fact, one recent American Cancer Society report states that lack of exercise is just as dangerous to your heath as smoking! And, people who don't exercise are twice as likely to suffer from heart disease as people who get even modest amounts of exercise.

Back in the early 60's there were large numbers of people walking or jogging. It was quite a fad to see how far you could walk in a day. People would walk as much as 20, 25 or 30 miles in a day. And the newspapers would write articles about it! Even back then, our country was worried that we were sitting around and getting flabby. No one expects us to walk 30 miles today, but it we be good if we did something simple like play an outdoor family game together.

So, if we admit that we're getting a little fat as a nation, what can we do about it? Again, the experts tell us that even a moderate amount of exercise will help. People are starting to recognize this as evidenced by the increasing popularity of outdoor family games. There are many to choose from and they're priced within reach of even the most budget conscious consumer. It's an inexpensive way to add exercise to our regular routine.

One favorite game across the country is BlongoBall. It's an interesting and exciting game. It's quick to set up and easy to play. It doesn't require any special skills or abilities, so it's great for anyone in the family.

BlongoBall is played by tossing a bolo made from two golf balls at either end of a length of rope in such a way that it will wrap around the horizontal rungs of a "ladder" type goal. It's easy and fun and anyone can play.

There are many BlongoBall imitators in the "toss it, wrap it, score" game category. BlongoBall is the original and our favorite. We've tested most all of these types of games and our preference is for BlongoBall because it is the only one we think is built to last. Some of the cheap imitations broke almost immediately, so be careful when buying a game if this type.

The second thing the experts are telling us is that we don't spend enough time together as families. Of course this is probably not going to make you lose weight, unless being with your family puts you off your dinner. But an essential part of healthy psychology and parenting is to spend time together not just working and handling the chores involved with running a family, but doing fun things.

This is where outdoor family games are handy things to have around. Most families will respond quickly and easily to a game as easy and fun as BlongoBall. Even teenagers who might normally be less interested in participating in a family activity will usually perk up when the BlongoBall game is set up.

When you're playing BlongoBall it's easy to converse and interact with other players. This is one of the other reasons we like it. It doesn't require such focus and concentration that conversation must come to a stop, yet it's still challenging enough to capture the interest of everyone in the family. It makes family time truly a together time. All the kids, even the very young grade schoolers can play. Plus, you can purchase additional soft rubber ball sets to use indoors in the winter. BlongoBall is a favorite year round game in many families.

All in all, outdoor family games are a great idea not only for staying in shape physically, but for keeping your family in shape and emotionally healthy.

How To Count Cards

Card counting is a common strategy used to play and win at blackjack. If you have wanted to learn how to count cards, but have been worried it is too hard, then read on. You are about to learn simple steps to counting cards that will get you started. If you want additional information there are plenty of great resources all over the internet that teach the various methods of card counting. This should be enough, though, to get you started in card counting.

The high-low system is one of the most common methods of counting cards. It is also one of the easiest systems to understand. Before you start to learn how to count cards, you need to understand that card counting is not really about counting the actually number of cards, but rather figuring the ratio of high to low cards that remain in the deck. It may seem confusing, but just follow along and you should start to understand.

Assigning Values

In the high-low system you will assign point values to each card. Low cards include 2,3,4,5 and 6. These cards get a value of plus one. High cards are the 10,jack,queen,king and ace. These cards get a value of minus one. Neutral cards are the 7,8 and 9. They get no value assigned to them.

To begin with learning to count cards you should practice memorizing the values of each card. Go through a deck over and over reciting the card values until you are sure you have them memorized.

Keep the Running Count

Once you are feeling that you have the card values memorized you can start working with keeping a running count. This is more practice to get you ready for the actual game.

To keep a running count you start with a value of 0. As you flip over cards from your deck you will add or subtract the values. For example, if you have a king, queen, 2 and 8 you would end up with a count of minus 1.

Keeping the running count will likely take much more practice that just memorizing the values. It is essential, though, that you get keeping the running count down perfectly. You should keep practicing until it becomes like second nature and you don't hesitate anymore in figuring the count.

True Count

Once you are ready to play an actual game and count the cards during the game you will go from a running count to the true count. To do this you keep the running count and divide it by the number of cards remaining in the deck. The true count will tell you what to bet.

If the true count is positive then bet more. If it is negative then don't bet as much. This allows you to play smart and only bet when you have a good chance of winning. In the end you will likely win more than you lose. Card counting can be a great way to start improving your odds at the blackjack table and help you start to make more when you play.

Sing With Passion And Karaoke Song Selection

By Lily Lansat

The largest determination that anyone has to make for karaoke is what song they should attempt on stage. There are literally hundred of thousands of tracks available with most karaoke sets, so it can be disheartening looking through the large book of songs, but if you keep in mind a few hints it will make your night easier, and render as much pleasure as possible.

First, make sure that you select a karaoke song that suits your articulation. Whether it is your first time or 101st time, you have to check that you can achieve at least majority of the musical notes you need. If you have a low voice, there is no point of picking out artists like Celine Dion or Whitney Houston, and the same goes for high-pitch voices; Barry White should be out of the question. Alternatively choose karaoke tracks that fit within your vocal range, and that way rather of concerning about if you can hit that difficult note coming up, you will be able to loosen and just savour the song.

Selecting the correct karaoke track also depends on what you are getting up stage for. If you are with acquaintances, and looking at getting up as a group for a bit of fun, it is prudent to pick out an up-tempo song that accommodates your mood instead of a dull ballad. If you are a regular, and want to take something a bit more challenging, there is nothing bad in choosing a slower song if you can manage it.

If you're celebrating an adult / older folks birthday with a karaoke party. You require to recognise what songs to select. Do your preparation. You don't want to select any old karaoke song; you require to take karaoke music that raises a feel of nostalgia. Find out what songs were hot when the party honoree grew up. Your better bet is to distinguish the top 10 songs of each year or decade and build your play lists round those karaoke tracks.

But a little tip to remember about most karaoke bars is that most people are out to have a great time, so selecting a slow and sombre song that does not genuinely fit the ambiance of the room can have sharp results.

Ultimately, when choosing your karaoke track it is optimal to find a song with a melody and words that you are at least intimate with. You do not have to recognise every song you get up stage for off by heart (thats why the TVs are there to help you) but choosing a karaoke song that you have listened more than once or twice will give you a bit more confidence in singing on stage.

Seattle Slew's Legacy Of Horse Racing Greatness

By Ross Everett

Seattle Slew died on May 7, 2002 at the age of 28. One of only 11 winners of horse racing's prestigious 'Triple Crown' he is by default considered among the all time greats in thoroughbred racing. Of the eleven horses to win the Triple Crown, he is the only one to do so with an undefeated record. He was also notable due to his humble beginnings, and is the only Triple Crown winner to have been purchased at public auction. He retired to stud in 1978 and sired over 100 stakes race winners including 1984 Kentucky Derby champion, Swale. Slew's offspring have earned a combined $76 million dollars at the race track. Slew wasn't the most majestic looking creature by the lofty standards of race horses, but was possessed with the heart, toughness and courage of a professional prizefighter.

The Seattle Slew story began very modestly at a public auction in Lexington, Kentucky. The Keeneland Summer Yearling sale wasn't supposed to be the marketplace of champions, and the idea that this particular horse would ever amount to anything other than a farmhand was downright laughable. Slew looked clumsy, due primarily to a right forefoot that splayed outward and resulting in a shuffling gait at a trot. He also wasn't a majestic beast like his predecessor by a few years, Secretariat. Slew was borderline ugly. So ungainly a creature was he that he was given the less than inspiring nickname "Baby Huey" by the Keeneland staff. He was purchased by two couples (Karen and Mickey Taylor and Jim and Sally Hill) for $17,500. What wasn't apparent at the yearling sale was the intangibles that make up a championship thoroughbred--poise under pressure, love of competition, toughness, heart and desire. The Taylor's and Hill's had stumbled onto an equine Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan who's competitive fire quickly became apparent to the trainers that worked with him and the jockeys that rode him. His first race came at Belmont in 1976, and the three races he entered--and won--as a 2 year old gave a hint of what was to come.

As a three year old, he quickly gained notice by winning his three Derby prep races, including the prestigious Wood Memorial. In the Derby, Slew got off to a terrible start as he stumbled from the gate much like War Emblem did in the 2002 Belmont. Unlike 2002's Triple Crown contender, however, Slew was able to recover from that miscue and basically force his way through a pack of other horses to position himself at the front of the field at the quarter mile pole. He went on to win the Derby by a length and 3 quarters. Another tough victory in the Preakness set up his Triple Crown winning run at the Belmont, which he won by 4 lengths.

Slew continued to campaign as a four year old, but in the days before the Breeder's Cup there weren't many opportunities for an older horse. He retired to stud in 1978, where he sired champions such as the aforementioned Swale and 1992 Belmont Champ AP Indy. Slew stood at Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Kentucky from 1985 until early 2002 when he was moved to Hill 'n' Dale Farm in Lexington, KY following a spinal operation.

Slew may not have earned the appreciation he deserved in his prime, coming so closely on the heels of the charismatic 1973 Triple Crown winner Secretariat--arguably the greatest thoroughbred race horse in history. The jockeys that rode him, however, understood fully what a special animal they were dealing with. Jockey Angel Cordero gave Seattle Slew this lofty praise: "If I had a chance to take any horse in the world, if someone said your life is depending on riding one horse to win, I would take (Slew). I rode 44,000 horses, but he was special, he was different. He was muscled, like a wrestler. He ran different than any other horse. It was like he came from another planet."

Following his death in 2002, Slew was laid to rest at Hill 'n' Dale Farm in Kentucky under a statue memorializing his legacy.

Visiting Tigers Shock Hurricanes In Overtime

By Ross Everett

The Clemson Tigers used a touchdown pass on their first possession of overtime to upset the Miami Hurricanes 40-37 on Saturday night to cap a back and forth game. Miami kicked a field goal on their first possession of overtime to take the lead, but Clemson responded with a seldom used play on third and 11 to get the victory as quarterback Kyle Parker completed a 27 yard touchdown pass to Jacoby Ford. Clemson improved to 4-3 with the win while Miami slipped to 5-2.

College football betting devotees who backed Clemson as +4 road underdogs eventually cashed their tickets, but they definitely earned their money in a game that saw twelve lead changes and two ties. Clemson improved to 5-2 against the spread with the cover, while Miami dropped to 4-3 against the money. The 77 combined points sailed OVER the posted total of 43.

After the game, Jacoby Ford explained his logic for suggesting the surprise play in the huddle:

"We knew this game was going to come down to who made more plays. And we did."

Miami has a history of winning when their offense is clicking-this loss was only the second in 115 games when the Hurricanes score 37 or more points dating back to 1985.

For his part, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is glad this one is over:

"I have a birthday next month and I think I'm going to turn 50 instead of 40. We had to put on Superman capes. We made plenty of mistakes that could have lost us the game, but they played with poise and confidence. We just kept battling."

CJ Spiller was also a big factor for the Tigers as he set a school record with 310 all purpose yards including a 90 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He also added 81 yards rushing and 104 yards receiving with a 56 yard touchdown catch.

Clemson QB Parker suggested that last week's win over Wake Forrest was a turning point for his team:

"I think last week we realized that we could be really good and this week we acted on it. I thought we really got some explosive plays and we played well."

Miami's quarterback Jason Harris sounded a markedly different tone in his postgame comments:

"This has to be my toughest loss here. We fought so hard throughout the game as a team and didn't come out with the victory. We let Clemson outwork us, we turned the ball over too much -- little things that made us get to this point."

Clemson will host FCS foe Coastal Carolina next Saturday before resuming ACC play the following week at home against Florida State. They'll travel to North Carolina State on November 14. Miami plays two of their next three on the road, starting next weekend at Wake Forest. They'll face the University of Virginia at home the next week before traveling to Chapel Hill for a game against North Carolina on November 14.

If bodybuilding is what you are aiming at, you must obtain a good gym membership. You will not only find inspiration but also every kind of guidance from gym instructors. Moreover the high quality exercise machines available at a gym are highly impractical to purchase and install at your home. After getting a gym membership, you have to formulate and stick to a proper workout plan so that you can obtain the best result from your investments of time, money and effort.

You should first begin by getting an exercise timetable for yourself. A gym trainer can help you set your fitness objectives and tell you comprehensively as to what you need to do to realize your goals. You must ensure that your whole week is clearly planned, including what workouts you will perform, how much weight you will lift and how many times you will be repeating a particular exercise on a particular day.

You should first make yourself mentally ready before you start your daily exercises. Any quantum of laziness or relaxation must be first shed off, because these might hamper your regimen and may also be detrimental to your health. You need to be alert and bring your competitive spirit to the gym so that you can stay concentrated on your program.

Once you begin your gym program you need to keep a record of how well you are improving. This will keep you on the right path and provide you with a sense of direction and control. Moreover, when you can clearly see on a piece of paper how you are advancing, you will be able to build inspiration to reach your target.

If you have registered with a good gym with experienced staff, they should be able to guide you about the process that you should follow for a specific workout in your gym program. But if your trainer is new to the profession, then you should check out bodybuilding websites on the internet or take help of a good book on the topic to figure out if the technique you are following is advisable by specialist instructors in the field and is not risky.

Lastly, one should focus on his diet, which forms an important feature of any gym programme. Gym dieticians can guide you on the diet you need to follow that will help your body to replenish the proteins and carbohydrates that are used up during your exercises.

Get In Shape With The Nintendo Wii Fit

By Wayne Allen

People will admit that they need more time for exercising in their life. However most people let other things fill up that time. Exercise time is not a time most people look forward to. That can be changed by making it fun to exercise. Studies have shown that people will stick with a program that they enjoy.

Involve your family in games and you will get your exercise too. It is not just the adult who needs to be more active and get themselves moving. Children need to be involved in the exercise program also.

This is a concept that takes video games to a new level that they have never reached before. Some were concerned that this was a new way to market another ineffective product. The toughest critics which are the customers have given it rave reviews. They seem to love the games that they can play.

The Wii Fit program involves using a balance board that is attached to the gaming console. This is one of the many accessories that you can purchase for the Nintendo Wii console.

With any fitness program that you are involved in you will want to monitor your results. Before you begin an exercise program you will need to complete the figures for your current performance. The system will return your weight, level of balance and you BMI (body mass index).

With this system you will be able to set goals for getting in shape. It will check those items at regular intervals that you choose. You could set it for each workout with the Wii Fit, once a week or once a month. It depends on how serious you are about keeping track of your efforts.

There are about 40 exercises that you can do with the Wii Fit. This way you are sure to find a few that you like. Some of them such as yoga are low impact. Others are more of an overall workout due to the strenuous nature of the activity. You can also improve your balance and your strength training.

It is a good idea to mix it up and take part in a variety of Wii Fit activities. It will keep you from getting bored and you will get a workout that covers a larger part of your body. You can improve your agility, flexibility and lose weight in the process.

A Song by Song Review of The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

By James Ronald Wellingston

So much is said about The Beatles legendary 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band but I think too much of what is said is about it's historical significance and the like. Not enough attention is paid to the music itself. And that's why with this article I'm focusing entirely on the music, one song at a time.

01. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" - This is a brilliant way to start the album and it really sets the mood for the entire thing. The "concept" of the album is really quite loose, without this song there is no concept album! One thing I really dig about this song is the crazy horns section. Can you imagine many "rock bands" of today having the imagination to include something like that in their song?

02. "With a Little Help from my Friends" - I know there are quite a few people who think that Joe Cocker really did the definitive version of this song, but I'm definitely not one of those people. I like Cocker's version, but the original contains the real magic to my ears.

03. "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" - One of the bands most famous songs. This is a great one to listen to in mono (you have to get The Beatles in Mono Box Set) because it sounds so much different in mono than it does in stereo. There's a lot more effect on the vocal in mono!

04. "Getting Better" - The "it couldn't get much worse" lyric that Lennon added to this McCartney song is such a great example of the way that Lennon and McCartney made each others songs better even when they weren't righting them "eyeball to eyeball" like in the early days.

05. "Fixing a Hole" - Tracks 4 through 6 are a beautiful slice of McCartney magic and I think this is actually my favorite of that great trio of songs.

06. "She's Leaving Home" - Another great reason to get The Beatles in Mono Box Set. This song sounds faster and higher (by a semitone) in the mono version. It's a treat to hear!

07. "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" - What a deliciously weird song this is. It's brilliant how "far out" this album takes you. It's like a journey to different parts of the world (and certainly there is time traveling involved as well.)

08. "Within You Without You" - I know a lot of people just can't get down with this kind of music but I certainly can. It's a really tripped out journey into the center of your own mind or is that your own heart? Or perhaps it's India!

09. "When I'm Sixty-Four" - I love how quickly the musical styles change with this album. We go from a carnival to India to music hall!

11. "Lovely Rita" - I have to admit that tracks #10 and #11 are probably my least favorites on the album. But considering I quite like both of those tracks, that says a lot about how much I love this album.

11. "Good Morning Good Morning" - John was inspired by a Kellogg's Corn Flakes commercial to write this song. Pretty cool lead guitar bits played by Paul.

12. "Sgt. Pepper's (Reprise)" - Rocks harder than the first version. I love how it ties the album together and it's brilliant how this closing version is "looser" just like a band may be looser at the end of a real show. And that's what the concept of this album was all about after all. The idea was that this album would "go on tour" rather than the band themselves.

13. "A Day in the Life" - The greatest song ever.

Weather Formations Are Created By The Earth's Orbit

By Ken Morris

The Earth is able to support life as we know it here because the sun and the atmosphere come together to form the climates in which people are able to survive. Without the sun, the Earth would be a frozen mass and without the atmosphere there would be no water to freeze.

The circulation of the Earth creates wind, and when wind is combined with sun and water, climates are created. Air pressure is created when the air molecules on Earth become dense. The denser the molecules are, the higher the air pressure is. Air at sea level exerts approximately 14.5 pounds of pressure per square inch.

Air molecules are always moving. Their speed of movement is dependent on the temperature surrounding them. Higher temperatures cause more frequent motion; cooler temperatures make air molecules move much slower. Convection occurs when an air mass warms up, expands, rises, and causes the air mass to become lighter. Convection happens all of the time, but it happens in irregular patterns. As the warm air rises, it cools, as it cools, it goes back down again. This constant movement also changes the air pressure of an area.

Low pressure occurs where the air is on its way up. High pressure occurs when the air molecules are all coming together, heating up and sinking down onto the ground. The movement creates wind and the more movement there is, the stronger the force of the wind. The changes in weather formations are often determined by these movements.

The Earth moves around in a complete circle in 24 hours. It moves around the sun in this circular pattern in 8760 hours, or 365 days, and creates what we call a year. The elliptical shape of the orbit of the Earth around the sun brings the Earth closer to the sun at particular times during the orbit. The position of the Earth toward or away from the sun determines the heat and light directed at the Earth, leading to the changes that occur during the day and night. This position on the orbit, depending on the position of the location on the Earth determines the season. The tilt of the Earth on its axis of about 23.5 degrees is what determines what happens where and what weather types exist where.

During the month of December, the North Pole tilts away from the sun and the South Pole tilts closer. This makes the Northern Hemisphere colder and darker during this time. As the Earth moves along, it changes its poles' positions and in 6 months, the sun is closest to this same part of the Earth. During this time, the Northern Hemisphere is much warmer and the days are much longer. This explains the different weather styles that occur at the same time, such as is how it is summer in the United States when it is winter in Australia.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles

By James Ronald Wellingston

I think because of the massive amount of attention that is given to this album's so called "historical significance" that sometimes not enough attention is given to the music itself. I hope to correct that imbalance with this review which focuses entirely on the album's 13 tracks.

01. "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" - The album starts off with this brilliant Paul McCartney rocker (he wrote it, sang lead, and even played the lead guitar part) which really sets the mood (and the "concept") for the entire album. I love how the song intersperses pretty heavy rock with the somewhat ridiculous horn sections. The imagination displayed in this music is really overwhelming. I can imagine people who have grown up listening to the drab obvious music of "rock bands" like Nickelback being very confused by what's going on in this music as they've never really been introduced to imagination or creativity in music before. But if they can get over that initial confusion, I think they will begin to understand the possibilities of what music can be.

02. "With a Little Help from my Friends" - The perfect song for Ringo Starr to sing. John Lennon & Paul McCartney wrote this song together specifically for Ringo to sing which I think makes the great lyrics all that much greater (think of them in that context.)

03. "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" - Now that the original mono version is available easily (with the release of The Beatles in Mono Box Set) it's great to be able to hear what this album sounds like in mono (how it was "meant to be heard" originally.) And the heavy vocal effects on this song is probably one of the more interesting things about the mono mixes for me.

04. "Getting Better" - This may just be the song I most commonly think of when I think of the Sgt. Pepper album. I'm not quite sure why that's the case, but it is! To me this song defines the spirit of the album very well.

05. "Fixing a Hole" - I love this kind of more subtle psychedelia. And yes, this is a very psychedelic song. And how about those lyrics? Anyone who doesn't think McCartney could write lyrics should pay close attention to these.

06. "She's Leaving Home" - Another great reason to get The Beatles in Mono Box Set. This song sounds faster and higher (by a semitone) in the mono version. It's a treat to hear!

07. "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" - I think my favorite part of this song is the cut up tape section where it sounds like sort of insane random carnival music.

08. "Within You Without You" - Speaking of "far out" how about we go all the way to India? Some people don't like this song because it doesn't fit with their preconceived notions of what music is supposed to sound like. To me this song is brilliant because of that very reason. We shouldn't limit ourselves.

09. "When I'm 64" - Check out this song sequencing. We went from a 1800s circus to India to do some meditating and now we're enjoying ourselves this very tongue in cheek music hall number. So many differnet styles of music are explored on this album, and they are all done brilliantly.

12. "Sgt. Pepper's (Reprise)" - This one is even better than the album opener. It rocks something fierce!

13. "A Day in the Life" - In my opinion this is the best song ever written. An absolutely epic way to end the album.

Speed Reading

By Gail Jones

No one really knows when speed reading was first used, but it might have been a long while in the past. For hundreds of years, reading was the privilege of a minority of the most highly-educated people in the world, the overwhelming majority of whom were monks and priests. This small, select group of men protected their privilege and were loathe to coach the general populace to read. Furthermore, during those hundreds of years there were relatively few books to read compared with today. Books were also very costly as they all had to be copied out by hand. Possibly the only fact that has not altered is that the Bible was the most common book in existence and even now the Bible is the most prevalent book.

The world is quickly becoming a place where individuals are slowly but surely giving up on books and becoming fixed in front of monitors or television screens. In such a world, parents must not ignore the importance of developing a zeal for reading in themselves and their children. Reading is a habit that should be established when the child is fairly young, so what can you do to engender this habit?

Well, there are a number of strategies you can employ, although one of the best to lead by example. Read with your child every day, even if its only for 10-15 minutes. Permit your child to see you reading. By this I mean, don't only read in bed before you go to sleep, but in place of watching television from time to time and read your children a bed-time story. Encourage them to read too. You could also:

Register your child for reading lessons, if you honestly don't have much time or your child is a little slow at reading. There are many well-structured after school reading classes that endeavor to make books more attractive to children. They help children with diction, idioms and metaphors. These classes can be entertaining with cartoon characters and pictures, especially for young children,. They often use picture books, nursery rhymes, comical songs and short stories to fire up the imagination of younger children.

You will have to learn how to arouse your child's interest. If your child has a favorite character, pick a series of books that include this character. Endeavor to encourage your children to read proper books not comics. The style in comics frequently leaves a great deal to be desired with its sloppy English and street slang. As an alternative, go for series of books like Harry Potter or Tarzan.

You should build yourself a library of your own books. This may sound a little impressive, but after all, a library is only a collection of books. Begin with a good-looking bookshelf that you can easily build on. A talent like reading cannot be learned in only one place, so you cannot afford to leave all the hard work to the day-school or even the after school curricula. You have to collect books that you imagine your child will enjoy too. Use the Internet as a source for learning about the contemporary reading games that will attract little children to the superior and ancient art of reading,

Once you child is interested in reading for its own sake, you might read up on speed reading. Speed reading is best suited for educational revision and background reading. It's greatly suited to cramming or studying for examinations. It is ideal for school and university. Nevertheless, the first job, before you can think about speed reading, is to get your child reading in the first place.
