What The Professionals Know About Batting Cages

It is not everyday we hear people talking about batting cages. Yet when you look at all the professional athletes, it is not hard to see that the ones of professional calibre are the ones who have put the hours and hours into practicing. Unfortunately when it comes to batting cages they are not as readily accessible as other sports facilities.

The best way to improve your batting average is to practice, but not just to practice hitting balls. You should also practice hitting balls in specific areas, in specific ways. The easiest way to accomplish this is to score your sessions in the batting cage. Take three points for a line drive, two points for a grounder and one point for a fly ball. This also will give you a target to aim for on your next session.

If getting access to a local batting cage is difficult or impossible, one solution is to build your own. A typical batting cage would be twelve feet high, fourteen feet wide and seventy feet long. Some batting cages have been built as small as ten feet by ten feet by twelve feet high.

The materials you will need to build your batting cage are, batting cage nets, generally made from polyethylene or nylon, support tubes for the nets, aluminum is a good choice, PVC pipes and some concrete or cement.

Once you have marked out the outline you will need to drill or dig holes for the support poles. These poles have to support the weight of the net, so you should make them a minimum of three feet deep. Using cement around the poles will increase the stability of them. Once you install your top frame made from your PVC pipe, you simply attach the net to the top and drape it down.

Now all that is left in building your batting cage is to make sure your net comes all the way to the ground. You don't want to have to be chasing balls that are escaping under the bottom of the net. Also you will want to make sure you have left yourself a way to get in and out of the batting cage.

Now place the pitching machine inside the netting, and you're ready to start practicing your batting. Remember to use the scoring techniques to make practice more fun, and more effective. Get out there and practice, practice, practice. Before you know it your RBI's, runs batted in, will increase and you will get on base more and get out less.

Once your client has decided to take your advice and go for the hair coloring then there are several phases you must go through to ensure you are give high quality service, bearing in mind that repeat business.

Phase One. Get to know your clients past when it comes to their hair. What style have they opted for the most often? Are they pro long or short hair? What is their hair care regime like? Study the hair in natural lighting to see if any yellow tones are present. You need to know if this is the natural coloring of the client?s hair, or has the environment affected it. It could even be left over residue from prior coloring.

We're talking about the father of a student on the court, but also a former pro football player. The ringing stems from one of the many concussions he suffered as a pro football player. He's not alone here. When 2,500 retired NFL football players were polled, over 1,500 of them had suffered at least one concussion as a pro football player. The long-term effects of these are undoubtedly detrimental.

Concussions very often lead to depression during the later years in life. If this next stat doesn't tell you enough, we'd be very surprised. It's reported that 87% of ex NFL players end up suffering from depression at some point in their lives. This number is extremely high and must be somewhat related to concussions, which are known to alter mood, sleep patterns, sex drive, and more.

Not only do they affect mood, but they also affect physical health. The average life expectancy in America is 76 years. The average life expectancy of an NFL player is much shorter than this, at just 58. Between all of the injuries suffered on the field (including concussions), the effects of the physical contact on a football player's health are detrimental.

Sports fans often focus on the money that pro athletes make, calling them extremely lucky, overpaid, and more. They often overlook the physical stress that a pro football career places on the body and the psyche, and the long lasting effects these have through one's entire life.

Welcome Back, Tom Brady!

It seems like an eternity, but the day is finally here. Tom Brady has returned to action for the Patriots, finally putting to rest his horrible injury that sidelined him for all of 2008. I remember being there exactly when it happened.

Maybe it was my girlfriend's fault! It was her first ever Patriots game, and look at what happened! Not sure if I'll be bringing her back to the games this year, but I was there with her that day. In a flash, Brady was off the field after one play and Cassel was in. I don't remember much more.

However, Cassel did a very commendable job back in 2008. Now he is in KC and Tommy is back at the helm. Tom played the first half going 10 for 15 for 100 yards, 2 TD's to Chris Baker the Touchdown Maker, and 1 INT.

While he was great in action, the moment that stands out in my mind is the way Brady reacted to the one bad pass that he threw for an interception. I liked this.

He took himself just as seriously during the first exhibition game of the year as he would had the team had everything on the line in the super bowl. These are the qualities that make Brady a winner in my book.

He is a passionate leader that blames no one but himself for his mistakes. There is no crying about his line or wide receivers like Mr. Peyton Manning has done in the past.

After seeing Brady in action for his first time in a year, I was really happy to see the way he looked. He was a bit rusty, but it's to be expected of anyone coming back from such an injury, and even any quarterback coming back from the off-season.

He is getting his rhythm back with Mr. Moss and has made new friends with Chris Baker. Tom's toy box is full this year and he just can't wait to play.

Iron Chef Invades America

One of the most entertaining spectacles on television can be found every week on the Food Network. The concept of the program sounds like a twisted dream"prominent chefs from all over the world go head to head in competitions more suited for All Japan Pro Wrestling. Thats exactly the premise of Iron Chef, which is hands down the most compelling cooking show on television. Even non-gourmands will enjoy the fast paced competition and the near incomprehensibility of the show.

The show was originally created by the Fuji TV network in the Japan, and the original Japanese title translates literally to The Iron Men of Cooking. The premise behind the competition is even more outlandish. An eccentric millionaire and food lover MC Kaga, summons the summons the finest chefs in Japan to do battle in his kitchen stadium. Also in residence are three Iron Chefs, each representing a different type of cuisine (Chinese, French and Japanese). The summoned culinary challenger picks which Iron Chef he wants to take a crack at and the contest begins.

The chefs just dont pull out the best dishes from their repertoire--that would be too predictable. Theres a catch to the contest, and thats the fact that every dish must contain the theme ingredient which is kept a mystery until immediately before the contest begins. At that time, Kaga brings forth a heaping helping of whatever the current mystery ingredient is in a production of smoke and pyrotechnics. Sometimes the ingredient is something basic like tofu or apples, but it can also be something obscure like ox tail or some obscure shellfish.

At that point, the chefs have an hour to prepare a seven course meal, served to a discerning panel of B-List celebrities that usually include a couple of 'TV Presenters' and a 'fortune teller'. The judges rate and discuss each course and declare a winner.

What really brings the show together is the announcing. Theres a hysterical play by play announcer, an excitable color commentator, and an even more hyperactive sideline correspondent who will break in the commentary frequently with revelations such as observing that a chef is using fresh ginger in a dish or some similar piece of trivia. Apparently one of the announcers is a legit sumo wrestling announcer in Japan, making the strange juxtaposition between cooking shows and wrestling even more complete.

The dishes that the chefs come up with are always pretty amazing, creative and complex"if not always appetizing. Some of their creations look yummy, but a dessert with a compulsory use of carp isnt exactly my cup of green tea. Nonetheless, the creative process and intensity of the competitors is amazing. Even as challenging as this is, the requirement that a theme ingredient be used in every component of the meal really ups the ante.

The Food Network has recently begun production of a native grown version called 'Iron Chef America'. It has a similar format, but really loses a lot from the Fuji TV original.
