Although World of Warcraft provides its players with numerous ways to farm gold, the reality is that many people still prefers the shortcuts and spend money to buy gold in the real world. This is obviously not allowed by the game and you have to be careful in order not to be caught. Personally, I do not buy gold but I did invest lots of time learning and improving my gaming skills, and I am quite happy with my results so far. Even in my first year, I managed to trade epic flyers for five characters.
If you are just starting out to make gold, the best way I can suggest is to gather items. Anything from mining, herbalism, skinning, fishing, cooking mats or cloth can all make you some good amount of gold!
Below are some tips for you to start making some gold.
1. Spend about thirty minutes a day in gathering mats. That will accumulate to big amount in the long run. If you look at the Auction House, you will find that there is a good supply of Northrend mats, as more and more people are in that area now. So, you may like to get mats in Outland or even in Pre B.C. to avoid huge competition.
2. Keep monitoring the Auction House and try to spot items with less competition before you go about to farm a target.
3. Target those items that are easy to get and easy to sell, and a good example is the deviate fish in the Barrens. They are not difficult to fish, but can sell for about 15 gold per stack. How many stacks do you think you can get in 30 minutes? 2 or possibly 3?
4. If you keep frequenting the Auction House, you will have a very good feel of the prices of different items. Don't get panic when the price of a particular items drops, as fluctuation happens just like the real world. Just hold the item for a few more days, and you may find its price picks up again.
5. Sites like Thott or Wowhead are also helpful resources, as they will provide you with ideas of how much an item usually sells in the Auction House. Keep those information in your mind will help you avoid underpricing your items, and you may even spot an under-priced item and do an arbitrage immediately.
Some people may find that these tips for farming WOW gold will take too much time away from their game play. This is true. However, as said, gold farming is a skill that comes with experience and learning. So, don't expect to skip the basics when you start out. You are sure to know about the more advanced techniques as you move on.
